University Work

TV NEWS DAYS

We spent two weeks producing a daily live TV news programme – ‘Yorkshire Voice’ – that was broadcast live via Facebook and YouTube at 4pm each day. This meant we had a hard deadline to work towards along with a strict running time. Each day the MA group carried out different roles.

Presenter

Presented the second day of the show.

Part of the role included finalising scripts in the ENPS programme, as well as self-shooting a preview video for social media before the show.

Reporter

Filed three reports myself. One was self-shot on iPhone and the others were shot using a JVC-600 digital camcorder. All were edited using Adobe Premiere Pro, and all were filmed and aired on the same day.

Also supported colleagues with a number of their reports, including coordinating several live on-location inserts to the programme.

Producer

Produced the 27th March show, presented by Ben Webster.

This included a day of forward planning on the day before, lining up guests and assigning reporters to cover specific stories.

I had the final say on what stories were covered, the look of the show and the running order. I prioritised having a varied show that covered the day’s big news whilst also having watchable engaging stories.

On the day I was supported by guest editors Mark Webster (former ITN journalist) and Lisa Webster (former BBC business producer).

GLOBAL NEWS RELAY

We contributed to the global programme, in which several universities from around the world produce a section of a show on a specific theme.

The 2024 show was about sustainability.

I was the Producer and Director of the show, which involved scripting the studio elements, deciding on the look of the show (along with the trailer), and keeping the show to time as it was recorded.

The presenters were Bethany Turner and Mark McKeown.
